Hack Windows
By: John Moulder

Are you tired of the boring Windows start menu? You see it every time you
click "start" (ironic you click start to "stop").

All you need to do is create a 32-x-192 sized image. If you are running Plus!
you can use regular 256 color bitmaps.

1. Launch Paint - Choose attributes from the Image menu, then
set to 192 Wide and 32 pixels Height.

2. Choose Save As...  select 16 color bitmap (or 256 if you are running Plus!)
name it anything you wish, but remember where you are putting it.

3. Draw the logo you want, then cut a 32-x-32 sized chunk out and save it.

4. Keep doing this until you have 6 or so pieces, save each one in numbered
order.

Run REGEDIT.EXE and make the following changes.
(Always backup your registry before editing it!)

Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

And:  \software\Microsoft\windows\current version\explorer\
And: Shell Icons

"19"="D:\\WHERE YOU PUT THE FILE\\filename1.bmp,0"

Repeat naming each new entry incrementally such as 20 until you
reach 24.

Now you will need to clear the old cache for the menu, go to your
windows directory and delete the shellicons file, or from dos:
DELTREE /Y SHELLI~1

Now when you reboot you should see the new logo.
