Tips From The Hood
nLimit your directory access to as few people as you can.
nUse a well configured firewall and maybe even a staging server to handle web content.
nRefresh static sites with an automatic copy over. This eliminates content being changed by hackers and then left undetected. This is how the government is dealing with their hacking problem.
nBACKUP YOUR DIRECTORIES OFTEN.
nChange default server settings.
nRemove unused scripts including CGI, C, Python, PERL.
nCheck site against known hacks - use tools from CERT.
nSubscribe to security related mailing lists.
nUse network sniffer programs.
nDo NOT use common names for passwords, add numbers or characters to passwords. Example: I want to use APPLE - I will need to make it APPLE-99 to make it brute-force proof.
